Deconstructing an ES&S ExpressVote Paper Record

An explanation of how barcodes correspond to ballot selections.

The ES&S ExpressVote and ExpressVote XL are voting machines which mark a printed paper record containing a series of barcodes and a human-readable summary of ballot selections. The relationship between the barcodes and ballot selections is not obvious, but can be explained.
